Elaine Barthelemy

My love of music began at home, harmonizing with my mom as we washed dishes—her beautiful alto voice shaping my earliest musical memories. When I was five, she took me to Cleveland’s Terminal Tower to perform on a local radio show, and music has been part of my life ever since. Over the years, I’ve played the organ in church, sung in groups, and, as a teacher, led school sing-alongs with my guitar.

I’ve also written and performed humorous parodies for dozens of birthdays, weddings, and retirements—and often sing my PMS anthem, “You’ve Got Your Friend,” at karaoke. After retiring from a fifty-year career in elementary education, including five years in Hong Kong, I found a new outlet for my creative and musical energy with A & K. Through the group, I’ve met new friends and built meaningful connections—proof that it’s never too late for something new. My mom would have loved A & K as much as I do.

FUN FACT: I once sang with Peter Yarrow on stage in Hong Kong.
