My first gig was at the age of five singing “Your Cheating Heart.” The next morning I made up for it by singing at my grandfather’s church. I will admit that the Honky Tonk songs were much more fun and the pay was much better! My singing career was limited to singing in churches and school until I was on my own. Marriage and children came along and my three daughters got hooked on community theater and so did I. After they were grown and gone from home I tried my hand at directing community theater and church musicals. I also started a choir for developmentally disabled adults with 25 members ranging in age from 21 to 72. This was the most fulfilling project I have ever had. It was like singing with the angels!
My niece introduced me to Alive & Kickin in the summer of 2022 and I fell in love! So much so that the next summer I moved to Minnesota from Tennessee with hopes of securing an audition with A & K …and the rest is history. It has been a lot of work, but I have never had so much fun working in my life. I have a long way to go but with the help of the other rockin’ seniors I believe I’m gonna make it!
