2018 – Flashback
“Flashback”, a high-energy musical theatre experience that will captivate, entertain and send you off inspired! Thirty-three talented senior performers, led by multi Ivey Award-Winning Director Michael Matthew Ferrell, artfully bring together an array of personal stories centered around the power of triggered memories along with a musical tribute to the many unforgettable artists that left us too soon. Co-created and under the musical direction of Jason Hansen, the ensemble is backed by a full-blown R&R band with Twin Cities finest musicians playing music from many of the ‘greats’ who passed before their time, such as Janis Joplin, Michael Jackson, Hank Williams, Kurt Cobain, Patsy Cline and Amy Winehouse. Co-presented by Alive & Kickin and the Bloomington Center for the Arts.

2016 – The 60’s
Take a psychedelic trip back in time, to a decade when bell bottoms, long hair, and flower children were the rage; “equal rights” and “make love, not war” were the themes; and “groovy, far out” music filled the air. The 60’s, led by Ivey award-winning Artistic Director Michael Matthew Ferrell and Co-creator/Music Director Jason Hansen, features Alive & Kickin’s senior rock ensemble along with a live 6-piece band. Together they recreate a vibe from the era that changed a nation with powerful music, song and authentic, highly personal stories of the age and the time. The 60’s is an original, MUST SEE experience that will touch your heart, take you back, and have you dancing in the isles!
2015 – Winds Of Change
“Winds of Change”, starring the beloved twenty-eight member senior ensemble Alive & Kickin, was a captivating historical blend of personal stories and social advancements set to inspiring music of the ages. Audiences experienced an explosive ride of emotions as this highly creative show celebrated and reflected social change that moved us and honored innovative artists who stirred up the music scene. Created and led by Ivey award-winning Artistic Director Michael Matthew Ferrell and Co-creator/Musical Director Jason Hansen, this all-ages experience promised and delivered to touch audiences hearts and took everyone through a progressive look at progression.
2014 – Makin’ History
Makin’ History – Where were you on that historical day? Makin’ History is our personal accounts of some of the most influential events that shaped and changed the world we live in today. It is also a look at the unforgettable music that often got us through those difficult times or helped us celebrate those great achievements. Join the 26 Alive & Kickin cast members as we share our stories and sing to remember where we were that unforgettable day.
2013 – Flashback
Flashback is billed as a musical look at the recurring memories that everyone experiences throughout life, often triggered by everyday occurrences like a smell, an object, an event, and even the weather. These experiences are written and shared by the A&K members in dramatic voice-overs. Flashback is also a musical tribute to the many unforgettable artists that tragically lost their lives at a young age. Under the musical direction of Jason Hansen and backed by a full-blown R&R band of some of the Twin Cities’ finest musicians. We will include music from many of the greats who passed before their time… Janis Joplin, Michael Jackson, Hank Williams, and Amy Winehouse to name a few.
2012 – Love is Alive
Love is Alive is a musical journey on the rollercoaster of love! This inspirational group of high-spirited, charismatic seniors spread their musical message as they explore contemporary genres of music ranging from rock’n’roll to pop to gospel and Motown.
